James D. White, RD, ACSM HFS, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Spokesman
Owner, President of Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios

Jim was honored to receive the 2010 Inside Business Top Forty Under 40 award for his outstanding professional achievements and his tremendous community involvement.

Most recently, however, he received a 2011 President's Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition Community Fitness Award. He is one of just 38 individuals across the country given this national honor for making sports, physical activity, fitness and nutrition-related programs available in their communities.

Growing up as a kid, Jim was not the biggest or strongest kid on the block. At 5’11”, 135 pounds, he was often seen as being too skinny by many of his classmates. In his junior year of high school, his brother introduced him to weight lifting. Jim’s dedication and persistence in the weight room helped him go from a 135-pound “weakling” to 195-pounds of “solid muscle.” He not only saw changes in his body, but he began seeing changes in other areas of his life: his energy levels skyrocketed, confidence soared, and motivation level remained high. He soon learned that leading a healthy lifestyle doesn’t only improve one’s body and health, but it can also have a positive influence on many areas of one’s life. This realization led him to carry out his lifelong mission - “Inspire others to have healthier and more fulfilling lives, which can be achieved through the proper exercise and nutrition.”

After high school, Jim attended college at Youngstown State University in Ohio. He graduated with honors (Summa Cum Laude) with a B.A. degree in Dietetics and was honored with “Nutrition Student of the Year.” After college he became credentialed as a registered dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and certified by the American College of Sports Medicine as a Health Fitness Specialist. He moved to Virginia Beach where he started his own personal training business, Jim White Fitness Inc. His clientele includes those from all walks of life (athletes, actors, models, business owners, elders, teens, and so on). On November 1, 2005, Jim strengthened his brand by opening Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios on Shore Drive in Virginia Beach. He soon outgrew this studio and opened a larger one in November 2006 on Laskin Road followed by an additional location in 2009 off Great Neck Road, both in Virginia Beach.  Jim did not stop there, as he knew his calling was being much more than a gym owner. In 2008, he self-published his first book entitled, The JWFit-in-30 Plan. In 2009, he followed by launching his very own fitness magazine, Hampton Roads Fitness, available to the seven cities in Hampton Roads. In his little spare time, Jim manages to live the life of fitness by competing in bodybuilding competitions, running marathons, and acting as a fitness model.

"No matter how vast the Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios franchise grows, I will continue to find value in changing people's lives, whether on a one-on-one basis or through the mass population. It's my passion for helping people, through fitness and life, that has motivated me and gotten me to where I am today." —Jim White

Most recently, Jim’s has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, named Top Forty Business Men Under 40 years old in Hampton Roads, and honored with the 2012 Hampton Roads Health Care Hero and 2012 Safe Harbor Awards. He has been selected as the head dietitian for Old Dominion University sports teams and has become one of the top male spokesmen for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. As a spokesman, Jim has been featured in all forms of media across the country and is rapidly gaining the reputation as one of the top fitness professionals in the country.  Jim has been nationally featured on the ABC Family Channel, The 700 Club and “Living the Life”, TLC, Radio Disney, the Discovery Channel, and much more. He secured a position on the nutrition advisory board for Men’s Fitness magazine, is a monthly Fitness Editor for Oxygen magazine, and nutrition expert for STACK magazine. He has been featured  in Better Homes and Gardens, Everyday Health, Fitness, Maximum Fitness, Men’s Health, Men’s Fitness, Men’s Journal, Muscle and Fitness, MuscleMag, New Body, Oxygen, Parade, Playboy, Prevention, Runners World, Shape, USA Today, the Virginian Pilot, Washington Post, Weight Watchers, Wine Spectator Magazine, Woman’s Health, and more.

As a community leader, Jim is a regional spokesman for the Alzheimer’s Association and has teamed up with the nationally recognized Junior League as their chairman to tackle the childhood obesity epidemic. In December of 2010, he started his very own Jim White Community Fitness Foundation, raising money for school fitness programs, holding food, clothes, and toy drives, serving food to the hungry, and offering free fitness services for people in need. He is the past president of the Tidewater Dietetic Association and won the “Recognized Young Dietitian Award” for the state of Virginia in 2009. His latest honor is being recognized as a community leader by the President with the United States Community Leadership Award. Now at the age of 33, Jim’s future plans are to open a chain of branded Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios expanding nationwide, Jim White fitness videos, books, and more. Jim’s main motivation is to help people, either personally or by means of mass communication, to change their bodies and their lives.
